Pelvic sonoelastography at Horev Medical

Sonoelastography is an ultrasound method that assesses the elasticity (stiffness) of tissue. In strain mode, we see how an area of the uterus or ovary deforms under light pressure from the probe: soft structures shift more, dense ones less. Combined with Doppler, we record the nature of the blood supply to a nodule/cyst — this helps distinguish, for example, a fibroid from adenomyosis and clarify the risk of active growth.

When and what

When it is prescribed and what it shows

On the left — reasons for prescription. On the right — what the examination reveals.

When it is prescribed

Indications

  • Uterine nodules, adenomyosis, endometriosis, endometrial polyps
  • Ovarian cysts / tumors, monitoring after treatment
  • Pelvic pain, heavy / irregular menstruation
  • Preparation for surgery or IVF, monitoring of therapy
What it shows

Examination results

  • A stiffness map of the fibroid nodule and adjacent tissue
  • Signs of invasion / adenomyosis, endometrial response
  • Type of vascularization on Doppler (peripheral / central blood flow)
  • Indirect signs of inflammation or fibrosis
How it is performed

How the examination is performed

The examination is performed with a transvaginal probe. First a standard ultrasound, then elastography and Doppler. The procedure is painless and lasts 15–25 minutes. A disposable kit is provided at the patient‘s request.

Preparation

No special preparation is required. An empty bladder is preferable. The optimal days are days 5–10 of the cycle (if there are no urgent indications).

Limitations

The method does not replace histology. In case of ambiguous findings, a biopsy / hysteroscopy may be required.

Result

The report indicates zones of increased/decreased elasticity, the type of blood flow, and recommendations on management (monitoring, further examination, consultation with a gynecologist).
