US Doctors Discover a New Type of Multiple Sclerosis

Researchers identified a new myelocortical subtype of multiple sclerosis in which neurons are lost while the myelin sheath of nerve fibers remains intact.

According to them, in this case neurons are lost, but the myelin sheath of nerve fibers is not damaged, reports "Naked Science". Meanwhile, multiple sclerosis has traditionally been associated specifically with the destruction of myelin.
An analysis of a donor organ database established that 12 organs showed signs of traditional multiple sclerosis and another 12 showed signs of a new myelocortical multiple sclerosis. According to the scientists, both types of the disease damaged the spinal cord and brain. However, white matter damage involving myelin appeared only in brains with the known type of disease.
In both types, neuron density decreased and cerebral cortex thickness was reduced. According to the researchers, the discovery of the new disease type will require changes to treatment strategies. It may also explain the ineffectiveness in certain cases of accepted multiple sclerosis therapy.

The Dangers of At-Home Teeth Whitening: Baking Soda, Peroxide, and Charcoal Under the Microscope

Author: Ravshanbek Abdulazizovich Abdulazizov, dental therapist at Horev Medical

The internet is flooded with tips for whitening teeth "at home" — baking soda, activated charcoal, lemon, peroxide. Patients trying to save money often end up with damaged enamel, increased sensitivity, and cavities.

Myth #1. Hydrogen peroxide is a safe way to whiten teeth

Peroxide is indeed used in professional systems, but in strictly calculated doses and under medical supervision. Self-application can lead to mucosal burns, gum inflammation, and enamel destruction.

Myth #2. Baking soda and lemon are natural, so they are safe

Baking soda is an abrasive that wears down enamel. Citric acid destroys minerals, weakening dental tissue. Together they cause sensitivity, wedge-shaped defects, and increase the risk of cavities.

Myth #3. Activated charcoal is safe whitening

Charcoal particles leave micro-damage on the enamel. With regular use, this leads to abrasion of the tooth surface and increased sensitivity.

What experts say about "natural" toothpastes

In this article we have already explained that foaminess does not determine quality. Whitening pastes with aggressive components can harm enamel no less than baking soda or charcoal.

Why it is harmful, not effective

Home methods only remove surface pigment. However, the enamel becomes thinner, weaker, and loses its protective properties. Sensitivity, microcracks, and cavities appear.

What to do if you have already used such methods

  • Get an examination by a dentist
  • Assess the condition of the enamel and gums
  • Receive a professional cleaning
  • Get a tooth restoration plan

At Horev Medical, safe and effective methods of professional whitening are used: Zoom, Opalescence, and custom trays. All procedures are performed under medical supervision and start with diagnostics.

Recommendations from Dr. Abdulazizov

  • Do not experiment with substances whose concentration you do not control
  • Do not use "natural" products without consultation
  • Book an appointment before whitening
  • Enamel does not regenerate — any mistakes can become irreversible
