Children must be fed according to basic rules, dietitian insists

Expert dietitian Lucia Martinez: the foundation of a child's diet should be fresh foods, not boxed cereals and jarred purées.

Lucia Martinez, a dietitian expert, has issued recommendations regarding children's nutrition. The basis of the diet should be exclusively fresh foods. Processed foods should be avoided.

“It is wrong to introduce industrially produced foods as complementary feeding, including boxed cereals and jarred baby food purées, because they contain a lot of sugar and have a uniform texture. When a child starts to try solid food, they explore, learn about structures and flavors, and begin to understand that food is not uniform. In this way, they develop a broader perception. If we give them purée, porridge, and formula, the child becomes passive. Older children should be given meat and fresh fish instead of sausages, nuggets, and fish sticks,” the expert says.

It is known that many parents have difficulty introducing vegetables into the diet. This forces them to hide vegetables in, for example, potato dishes or lasagna. But the expert believes that getting a child accustomed to proper nutrition is only possible by setting a personal example.
