Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the University of California reported what may accelerate the aging process of your brain. More than 31,000 people were scanned using SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography).
It turned out that brain aging is directly linked to a decrease in cerebral blood flow. A comprehensive brain aging model was constructed based on the analysis of 128 brain regions of study participants. It is reported that the majority of volunteers were patients of psychiatric hospitals, and this was taken into account.
According to scientists, for example, schizophrenia can age the human brain by four years, while bipolar disorder ages it by 1.6 years. If a person regularly used marijuana, the brain was 2.8 years older than the actual age. Alcohol made the brain 0.6 years older than expected. Notably, dementia and depression did not cause accelerated brain aging.
