Headphones blamed for the development of serious health problems

Head of the ear microsurgery department: using headphones more than 3 hours a day causes hearing loss, earwax plugs, and infections — low bass is the most dangerous.

Evgeny Garov, head of the Research Department of Ear Microsurgery at the L. Sverzhevsky Research Clinical Institute of Otorhinolaryngology, warns of the dangers of improper headphone use. Headphones can lead to hearing loss, earwax plug formation, and even injury to the ear canal.

Prolonged exposure to sound waves often causes headaches and hearing problems. To reduce this risk, it is not recommended to listen to music through headphones for more than three hours a day. By the way, you should also take breaks every 30–40 minutes. The volume should be at moderate levels comfortable for the ear. Low frequencies (bass) are considered the most dangerous.

As for the formation of earwax plugs, this problem arises due to a disruption of the ear canal's self-cleaning process during prolonged headphone use. If the headphones also do not fit properly, ear trauma and the entry of bacteria are possible. The result is an ear infection.
