Scientists say it's possible to rejuvenate the brain with proper stimulation

Electrical brain stimulation through an EEG cap improved working memory in elderly people to the level of 20-30-year-olds, with effects lasting 50 minutes.

Electrical brain stimulation using an electrode cap can boost the cognitive status of elderly people, achieving results comparable to those of 20-30-year-olds. Age-related decline in working memory can be reversed by stimulating specific brain zones in a particular rhythm. In theory, this approach could even help manage dementia.

Researchers used electroencephalography (EEG) to track brain activity and transcranial alternating current stimulation to alter brain activity associated with working memory. The experiment involved 42 volunteers aged 20-29 and another 42 aged 60-76. Without brain stimulation, the elderly volunteers performed working memory tasks more slowly and less accurately.

The brains of younger volunteers showed more active synchronization and communication of brain waves. Using stimulation, scientists attempted to reproduce a similar activity pattern in the brains of older people. The approach worked - working memory in the elderly improved significantly. The effect lasted at least 50 minutes after stimulation.
