If partners in a couple laugh at each other, it can drive them apart. Jokes within a couple are very important because they either reinforce or destroy a relationship. Jokes can also be a marker of relationship quality. The corresponding study on the importance of humor in relationships was conducted by the University of Kansas.
Playfulness in communication between romantic partners is important for maintaining a relationship. And if people laugh at something together, it increases attraction between two potential partners. This conclusion was drawn based on the analysis of 39 studies (data on more than 150,000 people).
It turned out that if a person knows how to joke in general and others find them funny, this does not mean they will be lucky in love. It is important to joke and laugh together, since this factor is directly related to relationship satisfaction. It is also important to avoid aggressive jokes that could offend the other half.
