Men who want to become fathers can improve their chances of conception by going to bed before 10:30 PM. They are nearly 4 times more likely to have high sperm quality compared to men who fall asleep at 11:30 PM or later.
Aarhus University conducted a study in which scientists recorded the bedtime of a group of men and the quality of their sperm. It turned out that when sleep was insufficient, the immune system began attacking sperm cells. Elevated stress levels caused by sleep loss also hindered conception.
Sleep deprivation also directly affects metabolism. In addition, if a man goes to bed late, he has no time for intimacy with his partner. That is why it is also important to go to bed at the same time. The optimal amount is 7.5–8 hours of sleep. With this amount of sleep, sperm are 6 times more likely to have high quality.
