Yogurt and Fiber Proven to Be Effective Anti-Cancer Agents

Long-term study of 1.5 million people: yogurt and fiber reduce lung cancer risk by 33%, even in smokers, thanks to their effect on gut microbiota.

A long-term study covering approximately 1.5 million people from the United States, Europe, and Asia was conducted. Researchers examined the health and nutrition of individuals with an average age of 56. Over the 8.6 years of the study, nearly 19,000 cases of lung cancer were recorded.

It turned out that the more yogurt and fiber a person consumed, the lower their cancer risk. People with the highest yogurt intake (averaging 82.5 grams for men and 111.1 grams for women per day) had a 19% lower risk of lung cancer than those who did not eat yogurt at all. A positive effect was observed even at lower consumption levels. Active fiber intake reduced cancer risk by 17%.

The most pronounced effect was produced by the combination of maximum consumption of both yogurt and fiber (risk reduced by 33%). This diet helps smokers, those who have never smoked, and those who have quit. According to scientists, this is due to the influence of yogurt and fiber on the gut microbiota. Fiber is a prebiotic, meaning that beneficial bacteria thrive thanks to this product. Yogurt, as a probiotic, itself contains beneficial bacteria. It is well known that the gut microbiota is directly linked to immune function.
