New condoms make sex much more pleasurable, developers say

Boston University has developed a self-lubricating condom that reduces friction by 53% and lasts for 1,000 thrusts.

Scientists at Boston University have developed a self-lubricating condom that releases lubricant on contact with biological fluids. It retains its properties for up to 1,000 thrusts.

For comparison, a conventional condom begins to dry out after 600 thrusts. The average sexual encounter lasts about 5 minutes and involves between 100 and 500 thrusts. According to the inventors, the new condoms should be more appealing because many users complain of dryness and irritation after using regular condoms.

To achieve the desired effect, the scientists coated the latex with a substance that becomes especially slippery on contact with water. A strong chemical bond forms between the substance and the surface of the condom, and it remains as long as lubrication is present. This type of condom reduces friction by 53%.
