Scientists equate visiting a sauna with going to the gym

25 minutes in a sauna raises heart rate and blood pressure as much as a rowing-machine workout — sauna use strengthens the heart but does not burn fat.

A study involving 19 healthy volunteers showed that 25 minutes in a sauna raises heart rate and blood pressure in the same way as exercising on a rowing machine. However, a sauna cannot promote weight loss because it does not involve muscular activity.

According to the scientists, when the volunteers left the sauna, heart rate and blood pressure readings dropped to levels below the original baseline. Based on this, the specialists concluded that sauna sessions can strengthen heart health. A sauna is suitable for anyone who can tolerate moderate physical stress without discomfort.

However, people with chronically low blood pressure should monitor themselves carefully, as pressure will drop further after a sauna. The scientists also stress that it is important to drink water after leaving the steam room. This helps prevent dehydration.
